What you need to know when getting your first notebook

It is pretty exciting when the thought of getting your first notebook. After all it is stylish, mobility; take little space, portable and so on. For working person, it will be useful and easy to bring, make presentation to customers. For students, it may be easy to bring it to school do work, showing to friend, and hence no need to wait for place in a school computer lab. I for one had been dreaming of getting notebook for years. But little did I expect some unexpected small things that come with it.

Notebook or also call as Laptop is a small portable personal computer systems that was design to help a person to max his productivity and active lifestyle. In the past notebook are considering to be very heavy and expensive. As time pass, notebook become more common, less heavy and cheaper than before. But then why would you buy a notebook and not a personal computer instead?

The biggest difference in Notebook vs computer are listed below. In the term of price, Computer is generally cheaper than a notebook. There are many hardware which is more easily to access for computer compare to notebook. And beside that, the fact that note book are design for easy portability, therefore most of its hardware may be harder to get.

In term of performance capacity and reliability, personal computers in fact perform much better compare to notebook. And most of the technology can be use for personal computer before they make it into notebook. And because of the size of a personal computer is big and while a notebook has limited space, the ability to expand it , more selection of hardware, better configurability and upgrade ability for a personal computer is much more better than a note book. And finally, your gaming experiences are better using a personal computer compare to a notebook.

After all the reason above given, how come a notebook will be better choice for you instead of a personal computer? For me, there are only 3 reason which is size of your place, portability and power saving. If you have a place that only can use a notebook or you may require porting it frequently to different place to do work, notebook indeed is a good choice.

What was the requirement you should know about when getting a notebook? The first advice I was given when I bought a notebook are I should look for a comfortable monitor size. This is very important especially if you know you will use it for long time and can reduce your eye strain a lot. Then you are advise to get the most memory/ RAM to the highest you can get within your budget limit. And I recommend you to get an external plug-in mouse because it is more comfortable to use compare to the touch screen provided.




After you get a notebook, below is the list of thing you should look out for as a 1st time user I would recommend you to check read this and prepare before you get one. This is what I personally experiences problems from my first notebooks.

Notebooks are hot when they are running. It is hot and therefore not suitable for you to hold it long with your hand. There are once when I was given to use it for office work and are force to carry it with my hands for hours because of the lack of place to put it. The result is my hand actually slightly burn and build up a tiny muscle for that day. I would also recommend you to buy a notebook cooling fan so that your notebook will not so easily spoil.

When a notebook spoils, you need to send it back to repair. And because of this, you should check out of how you can send it back to headquarter to repair. And usually a notebook repair took longer time than when you send a personal computer to repair (in my case, it is about 3-4 weeks since I send it to shop b4 they send it to notebook factory).

The next one that you might encounter problem are software version. After 2 months of using it, my operating system trial time is down. This is the most unexpected one to me as I thought the notebook software had at least 1 year duration. Luckily I manage to find the software from another computer shop. You can get the software from a local shop or buy from internet. It is recommended you get the one with cd.

And last one you should check out is how your notebook able to connect to the internet. Some people prefer to use wireless modem, some will subscribe to device that is specifically build to connect internet from a notebook.
